Local workforce development group announces open house event
(New Bremen)
The West Central Ohio Workforce Development Initiative (WCOWDI) is hosting an open house event on Monday May 7th from 6pm until 8:00 pm at the Tri-Star Career Compact, Frank Dennings Vocational Building 809 McKinley Rd. St. Marys, OH 45885. The open house will feature tours of the Tri-Star Facility along with booths and information from local employers seeking individuals interested in specific career positions. Local business leaders will hold a panel discussion with attendees entitled: “Manufacturing Awareness: Regional Opportunities for Today’s Generation.”
“It’s very important that we work to connect students, adults and local employers with various skills training providers,” said WCOWDI organizer Angela Hamberg. “People need to realize that they can earn an excellent living wage in one of these technical manufacturing jobs, without incurring a hefty college debt.” Potential applicants can learn about training programs, and speak with local employers seeking to hire qualified candidates in a variety of manufacturing disciplines. This is the second open house WCOWDI has hosted since November 2011. “Our first open house helped us to identify several candidates for the training programs,” explained Hamberg. “Our first CNC machining training session concluded earlier this year, and the welding training session in under way. Attendees from the first open house are currently working to get qualified for local manufacturing jobs.”
“Manufacturing has evolved a great deal in recent years,” said Scott Frey, Executive Director of the Southwestern Auglaize Chamber of Commerce. “We’re partnering with WCOWDI to spread the word that local companies need to find technically skilled workers. There are many good paying jobs that are currently going unfilled, for lack of skilled trades workers.” Frey noted that once applicants complete the training programs, they will have a “marketable skill set” that will help secure a position with a manufacturer.
